Leadership - The Power of Certainty!

There is little doubt that the world's leading high performance coach is Tony Robbins. Love him or hate him, he is extra-ordinary in his ability to condense and communicate the Science of Achievement.

Tony says that the most powerful human need [other than survival] is CERTAINTY.

Especially as it relates to FEAR which is the number one Enemy of success.

FEAR kills Confidence and destroys Certainty.

It's time to be CERTAIN about your business.

Be certain WHY your business will boom in 2009

Be certain WHY your can achieve your big goals in 2009

Be certain WHY anyone who joins your business in 2009 WILL SUCCEED.

60 years of uncertainty

For 60 years [yes, 2009 is the 60th anniversary of the introduction of the MLM compensation plan], people have been uncertain about whether someone joining this industry will succeed.

With a competence based training approach, you can be certain in their success. If they learn skills first, anyone can succeed. This is an amazing power for you. Like nothing in 60 years.

So learn about how everyone can succeed. And let this certainty release the power you have inside you to take advantage of the most perfect economic conditions for a network boom in 20 years!

Go as hard as you can!

Motivation is a Science  - Part 1

Motivation - it's not witchcraft
Let's discuss Motivation - one of the most talked about yet least understood area in Network Marketing.
The challenge with motivation, is that few actually understand it. Some many people talk about

Motivation like it's some natural force beyond the comprehension of us lesser mortals. Like its something that just happens "they lost motivation so now I must find new people".   It reminds me of the way people must have talked of death and disease in the old days. 'The town got this mysterious sickness and people died. It was the work of Satan.' And then we discovered viruses, hygiene and other realities of life.

Motivation is a Science
Whilst people are different, motivation is basically a science. And as such you can learn it. You can learn how to develop motivation in yourself and others.
Over the coming weeks I am going to discuss some basic principles and insights for you. This subject is so important EVERYONE needs to understand it.
There is lots of stuff I want to explain to you so you'll get an email every couple of days. The core information is included in my new 100% Motivation Twin CD programme. It has 2 hours of explanation of how you and everyone can be 100% Motivated. I hope you buy it - ask your local agent or buy online on www.legacysuccess.net

Your beliefs?
The first area for you to consider are your beliefs to motivation so do you think everyone can be motivated to succeed in this business? Do you think people join and their joining motivation determines whether they will survive or not? Some will, some won't, so what next?
Take time to write down your beliefs [honestly].
Discuss with your upline. What do they believe? It will determine their strategy.

100% Motivation - Part 2

Are the Facts Right?
In my last mail, I asked you to confront your personal beliefs on motivation and people, to talk to your upline.
The smart ones of you will have done this. I am sure 90% plus of leaders who wrote their beliefs down will have found that they believe that motivation is pretty much set on joining. Those that are motivated and take massive action succeed, the rest eventually die.   It's the same everywhere in the world AND it's so stupid.
Yes stupid. This belief effectively guarantees that 90% of people joining your team will fail. This is a massive waste of effort and bad business.
So lets understand whats actually happening.

What is Motivation?
That's obvious. It's the fire that drives you into action. Our business is about action so Motivation is critical.

Why Aren't People Motivated?
A classic question and it reveals where people go wrong, there is no detail.
'Motivated for what'? Is it really motivation or is it that there is not enough action so you blame it on their motivation. Or is their motivation and yet not enough action.
We are leadership professionals. Our job is to influence people to take the right action. Motivation is one of our key subjects. We must master it or we are 'amateurs'.
So over the next day or so, I want you to think about motivation. What do you need your people to be motivated to do? How much motivation do they need?  How can you measure it?  Is their motivation really the issue?
Think. Think.
Some people treat their downlines like mushrooms. They keep them in the dark and feed them on bul****t [another word for manure].
I want you to think. To be professional.

100% Motivation - Part 3

What are the facts?
People are motivated for countless reasons. Perhaps people get confused and maybe this is why people in this industry are so unbelievably bad at motivation. How can I say this? Well let's look at the facts:
Everyone who joins this business wants to succeed.
We say that everyone has a 100% chance of success.
YET vast numbers of people do not achieve that success
Huh?

If they "want to" and "can", how come they "don't"?
The FACTS say that something is SIGNIFICANTLY wrong here!
And before your "justification/excuse/blame" mechanism goes off, be very clear about the following:
Apart from a few people who join to get the sponsor off their back [shame on the sponsor] or who join to just buy the products [why would you let them?], EVERYONE wants to succeed. They have the motivation inside them!
Everyone can succeed in this business to the Team Leader level. This is the "franchise" level. We are not asking people to endure the sort of rejection that door-knockers receive - this is a warm-market, no pressure, inspirational form of business. There is no performance pressure, etc, etc.
YET too few people succeed.
The difference between the expectation and the reality is what we all want to solve. FORGET about recruiting lots of people if they leave as fast as they join. You need to learn how to keep people and that's about answering the challenge detailed above.

Is there an answer?
Many people do not think so. They excuse it away by actually believing that "most people do not want to succeed" OR "whilst the system says everyone could succeed, in reality only self-motivated people do."

Well the fact is that there is an answer. The answer is simple yet not a one-liner. You have to learn and understand it.

If there was no answer then we would be promoting a business based on a false reality that we knew was untrue [do you know what that is called?]

I think you are going to LOVE the next few emails. I will give you the solution in concept. For the detail you must buy the CDs. They are cheap for the results you'll produce from what you learn so don't complain!

So think about what you think the answer to 100% motivation is.
Think

100% Motivation - Part 4

My last message raised the reality of Motivation in this business.

Basically, huge numbers of people [a totally unacceptable number] stop working before they have achieved the level of success that would make them happy.  Is this a problem?   HELL YEAH!

It means people do not achieve what we promise. This makes us out to be liars. It's bad business.
Now I am going to relate some opinions and facts that may challenge some people. Will you give me permission to do this? If you disagree, send me an email at info@100percentinstitute.com  and I will answer [to all]. The only thing I ask is to make sure you get the whole facts.

Understanding motivation
Most people in this business have a simplistic view of motivation.  What is reflected is that: Motivation is centred around goal achievement. Performance goals only. A few get to 'VISION'. Yes, a few lucky people actually discover/develop a big motivational reason for taking action. It's the 'BIG WHY'. A very few of these then create vision boards, affirmations, some then link these in with their goals.
So people join, we get them to write a few goals and hopefully can touch a few of them so we discover their bigger inspirations. If they call, we try to remind them of their goals. Maybe we try to expose them to inspirational CDs, books or messages from others.

 Maybe we try and get them to hear and see the testimonials of others to inspire them to believe that their goals may come true.
Is this your strategy?
This area of Motivation is called 'Inspirational Motivation'. Think about how effective it is until my next newsletter/
Think about it.
Ed

PS if all this hasn't convinced you to buy the 100% Motivation CD programme then I don't know what more you need? Do it now. www.legacysuccess.net

100% Motivation - Part 5

What language do you speak?

Inspirational Motivation is based on goals, vision and testimonials. This motivation is the wind beneath the dreamers, entrepreneurs and inspired. It is also the force behind the desperate.

It is an optimistic, positive forward-looking and thinking force pulling you towards a better future. A great term for this is 'Dream Building'.
It does not matter who you are or where you are based, if you are a Dream-Builder, you can be motivated by this area. It is like a language that can speak to your soul.

I do not understand

The most experienced of you will know that Dream-Building does not drive most people. You can pile on the inspiration and whilst they may clap, scream or promise, they still don't take action!  In reality, it's like you cannot speak the language of their motivation. IF you believe that everyone has the motivation to succeed [like I do] what is missing here?

Hints:
1.       Can dreams be too big?
2.       Is your dream the same as mine?
3.       What do you do to ensure quality control?
4.       What turns Motivation into Action?

Think about it.

100% Motivation - Part 6

Can dreams be too big?    You need to learn about the Motivational Gap.
Between where you are today and the Goals/Vision you talk about there is a Gap.
You must believe that you can cross this Gap OR you will not be motivated to try.
As Napoleon Hill says 'what man can conceive and believe, he can achieve'.
Achievement is based on your understanding and belief in what is necessary for achievement

Gap is too wide

Most people allow their new people to focus on visions beyond the person's beliefs or confidence. The Motivational Gap is too wide.
The sponsor naively thinks the 'big vision' will power 'big action'. In reality it powers no action.

This is a classic coach's mistake. They focus people on goals they could achieve or goals their [selfishly] want the person to achieve for their own needs. The coach is focusing on themselves and not their protégé.

Reality check  Take a look at your team and at your own approach to people. What is the motivational gap?

Cheers
 Ed
PS           Take a bow ladies
Ladies are normally so much better than men about letting someone determine their own goals and vision even if this means those goals and visions are not large.  Women understand people better. Thus they normally make much better coaches to those that struggle with big goals and vision. This is why woman are now starting to dominate the leadership ranks.

100% Motivation - Part 7

Is your dream the same as mine?

I was training leaders in the UK once and was discussing motivation. We had all heard of the 'American Dream' so I asked what people thought was the 'British Dream'.

Some wag yelled out 'Not having a nightmare!'

We all laughed yet there was some truth in that unbelievably negative comment. The British, Europeans, most Asians and most people in even the optimistic New World countries are more worried about avoiding failure than achieving success.

Lesson to be learned

When discussing someone's motivation, we need to discover what they are trying to avoid in addition to what they are trying to achieve.

Getting away from the Hell is probably more motivating than the Heaven!

What is your strategy to help people discover their 'Hell'?

Cheers

Ed

100% Motivation - Part 8

What do you do to ensure quality control?

Some people are going to shake their heads at this next message...

Here's the logic:

1.       This is a self-employed self-motivated business. There is no boss to push you.
2.       If people are not motivated, they fail.
3.       You have a motivation strategy: write goals, write vision, etc, etc.
4.       If people do not follow your strategy, they are likely to quit before they earn the money they wanted - that is they fail.
5.       As a sponsor, you are paid to be the 'coach' and to help them with their motivation.
6.       As a leader, you are paid to ensure your team does the best with motivation

So what quality control measures do you have to GUARANTEE that everyone who joins follows your motivational strategy?

That they write the goals/vision. The goals are the right ones. They have turned the goals into affirmations. They have a big vision. They have turned the vision into their 'story' etc. etc.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF YOUR BUSINESS?

Don't say you can't because you can. AND you have to.

I know a ton of people just became uncomfortable with this discussion because they have convinced themselves that they are not responsible for this OR that it is impossible to do OR that they do their best.

FACT - new people join and they know nothing. You must be directive. If you are not directive, people will not do as you ask. They will cut corners. They will fail.

They will fail because you did not insist. And when they ignored you, you did not push it. You did not get the upline to push it. You just let them 'go out and try', even though the more experienced people know that that person had 1 in 100 chance of success.

Think

Ed

100% Motivation - Part 9

What turns Motivation into Action?

CONFIDENCE.

Confidence releases motivation.

If you believe that everyone has sufficient motivation inside to succeed then the key to success must be confidence.

'Oh my people aren't motivated' they cry...

The ignorant leader says 'you need to get them to the event, on the conference call or listening to this CD so they can be inspired again.'

The smart leader answers 'the problem is not motivation, it is confidence. Let's build confidence.'

Focus on confidence building and your success rates will explode!

Cheers

100% Motivation - Part 10

The craziest motivation strategy I have ever heard

We ask new people to write performance goals and develop a vision. Most people [like 99%] either don't do what is asked OR do not do it properly so the process NEVER creates focused powerful motivation.

AND we don't do anything about this even though we know there is a 99% chance they will fail because of this.

Please don't say in your mind ['there's nothing I can do' or 'this is what some people are like']. This self-talk is not true and stops you from taking responsibility and learning.

A new strategy

Some people are now saying the problem is not the WHY or the HOW. To be successful, you need to change your belief systems.

For success, we need to do personal development first!

Hello.... This is the craziest statement I have ever heard intelligent people say in this business.

If success was based on changing belief systems then we are dead as a business.
Massive religions have tried for millennia [that's 1000s of years] to change belief systems with little impact. It is an incredibly difficult and individual process. If you think you can pump your team onto a 2 day workshop and produce 'changed' people for success then you are:

a. desperate for a solution;
b. stupid;
c. on a commission from the workshop trainer or;
d. all of the above.
The fact that you, as the leader, feel you have made changes from the workshop and/or your people 'felt charged' leaving the training DOES NOT mean they will do more business! [The evidence shows they do less].

I find that most people promoting this strategy of 'belief systems first' strategy are either desperate because their failure rate is so high OR more interested in personal development than team building.

Forget the emotional 'warm and fuzzy' impact, what are the facts in terms of cold hard results?

Belief Systems

Do most people have belief systems that could do with some significant realignment? Absolutely.

Will it help them in their business? Maybe.

Frankly the results of these courses are that a lot of people then forget about the business and chase some other dream of 'wholeness'. Whilst this is nice, few seem to find it and end up paying thousands, feel less contented and lose their business drive.

It is true that one person in many hundreds suddenly discovers inspiration and creates massive results. You will read their testimonials. And it is true that these 'belief system' workshops are wonderful experiences in the very short term. YET the facts are that 99% of new people who attend do not produce any more business or cover the cost of the workshop.

I can imagine some people are reading this and fuming. I will have challenged your beliefs about belief systems. I am sorry yet the facts speak for themselves. Incidentally the biggest promoters of 'personal development first' success strategies are the sellers of personal development. Having once been a leading marketer of personal development, I am revealing this fact as an insider.

Basics

I would say that 98% of people can be successful to the 'franchised' TEAM Leader level in a network based on their current belief systems. The actual key to their success [if in the right company and system] will be motivation and skills.

Once someone is a TEAM Leader, that is the time to investigate the belief system change process as part of their leadership development programme. The fact is that your beliefs will develop positively as you develop within the business.

Summary

The FACTS show that the motivational strategy nearly everyone is using is not working. By FACTS, I mean Results. By Results, I mean the success rates. It works a little bit, yet not well enough.

So if you are booked on a belief system workshop enjoy the experience yet NEVER think it will make the difference in your success in this business. If you are the one in hundreds where it did, keep it quiet, you can mislead everyone else. Get them to focus on motivation, skills and action.

Sorry for writing so much. It's an important subject and so misunderstood!

Cheers

100% Motivation - Part 11

Motivational Levels

The first point to understand is that your motivation to your network business has a level from 0 to 100%. 100% is the level where your business is prioritised high enough to take enough action to create momentum. Only through momentum do you tap into the exponential power of numbers which creates success in the business.

Your motivational level will fluctuate based on your confidence.

Dream Zone

Last message I talked about Inspirational Motivation - what we often call 'Dream Building'. I explained how important it was YET less than 10% are really motivated by this. These people are in the Dream Zone. The primary motivational strategy is Inspirational Motivation. They respond to inspirational speeches, CDs, workshops, testimonials.

Everyone has a motivational level where they enter the Dream Zone. In some people it's over 90%, others it's under 50%. It depends on your mental state.

Dark Zone

Yep, those not in the Dream Zone are in the Dark Zone. The metaphor is based on light. Dreams are like a light you see pulling you forward. If the light doesn't pull you, you are in the Dark.

What happens if you use 'light' Inspirational Motivation on people in the Dark Zone? Obviously not much. They may seem to get excited yet the fire dies rapidly producing little action.

Enter the Light!

If people are in the Dark Zone, you have two choices. One is to forget about them and the other is to lead them into the light.

I find 99% of people use Inspirational Motivation strategies on their people in the Dark Zone, find it does not work then bitch about how unmotivated these people are using sayings like 'you can't raise the dead', 'some will, some won't, so what next?'. What a waste!

People in the Dark Zone don't need dreams, they need confidence. Confidence. Confidence. Get it?!

They get confidence from competence in skills and Needs based Motivation.

Learn how to do this and EVERYONE can become 100% Motivated.

New message...All you need is Love!

100% Motivation - Part 12

All you need is Love!

Most people's strategy to motivation is based on inspiration - Vision and Goal Achievement.

It is naïve and therefore ineffectual for most of their team.

Most people are in the Dark Zone. They need confidence.

Needs Motivation

Love, Belonging, Affirmation, Care, Empathy, Nourishment.
These are basic human needs.

If you know Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, you will know they are much more powerful and important than the self-actualization needs of Inspiration!

Yuck!

I can imagine that 99% of the alpha male [female] competitive director-type network leaders have just choked!

In a Recruiting Game form of Network Marketing where everything is based on mass recruitment, mass motivation and [mass failure], this form of intimate individual form of motivation is an anathema [nightmare].

These guys want 'Rockstar' Networking. Everything is about massive action and reaching the top [no matter how many people fail to propel you there.] Everything is about you, your recognition, your title. Your dreams of achievement, flying first class and walking the beaches of the world with your boyfriend.

Needs Motivation is based on relationships. It's about sponsoring someone and becoming their professional coach yet understanding that over 90% of people must have Needs-based motivation and competence coaching to succeed.

By focusing on them through professional competence coaching, they will become motivated to learn skills which will build confidence. The confidence releases their internal motivation.

With this their motivation will eventually build to a point whereby they will leave the Dark Zone and be inspired by dreams. This will power them into independent action and momentum.

The Future

The future of Network Marketing is not based on alpha-male entrepreneurs using motivational hype to throw numbers into the system. Those people leave as fast as they join.

The future is based on effective coaches helping people become competent, building confidence and using mainly needs-based motivation.

The goal for most people will not to be a superstar diamond. It will be a competent, confident, independent team leader making an above average income. With the right motivation and competence coaching EVERYONE can make this. 100% Success.

They can become 100% motivated and create the success and learn to become 100% Leaders.

This is an industry everyone can be proud of.

Cheers

Fantastic Signature Lines

We are in the marketing business. Wherever possible you must promote your business so long as this fits within your branding. I use the word 'branding' because it ensures you do not act stupidly.
That is, you don't use pressure on people as it does not fit the 'warm market' element of your brand. You don't use TV advertising.  You don't use cheap marketing materials if you have a 'quality' brand position.

Most people send a lot of emails to all sorts of people. Your signature line is an opportunity to send an advertising message you just should not miss. Your signature line is at the end of your email.  Mine is currently:

Ed Ludbrook
Leadership Specialist & Futurist
Chairman, 100% Success Institute
The difference is 100%
Mob: +64 21 320011
www.ludbrook.com
www.100percentleadership.com

As you can see it states, who I am, what I do and basic contact details. My marketing is different from yours yet I still need to have basic marketing information. What you should have is:

Name,
Independent Consultant/Distributor/Rep [whatever you are called]
XYZ Company
Contact details
And then some message.
Exciting message

Use your imagination. I receive lots of emails around the world so I get to see some fantastic messages. Some people have jokes. Others have short poems. Others have advertising messages:  'looking for a fantastic opportunity to escape the rat race?'

Call to action:
Always finish with a call to action - 'look at this site', 'call me now', 'request an info pack'

Adding a Signature in Outlook
In Microsoft Outlook 2003, go to Tools>Options>Mail Format>Signatures. Just create one in there. Sorry I don't know how it works in Mac.

What tools should I use?

What tools work in hard economic times?

In times of easy money, people want dreams.
The reason is that the world is flush with very positive messages of people being very successful. People making extra-ordinary profits on shares, houses, selling businesses and in employment.
It's what sells media.
They hear the stories everywhere socially.

In times of tight money, people want facts.
The media sell their newspapers, TV, etc based on bad news. People struggle to dream.
This is why my books and CDs on the facts on the future of the industry are so powerful. They provide confidence.
Also cut out articles from newspapers and magazines about the economic times. It creates the environment to discuss your opportunity. It reinforces that there will be lots of people looking for opportunities.

The key here is to blast your message out to people.
Now is the time to tell everyone that you have a new way of making money.
Ask people to pass on this message. Friends tell friends.

You should encourage your team to increase the numbers of marketing tools by a factor of 10.
The key with prospecting is always to be a Numbers Game.

These are great times for us, tell everyone about it!

How Do You Pitch Your Opportunity?

In tough economic times, how do you pitch your opportunity?

The situation
You need to remember that the situation is different now.

People are less likely to believe the 'big money' stories.
Also people are likely to have a more negative state of mind
Also people are likely to have less confidence

People will want to hear more about security and small successes rather than 'get rich' stories.
They want to hear reasons why they will make money [as many in society are not making money].
They will want to hear economic rationality.

Pitch Economic Security rather than Economic Freedom.

Why the strategies of the past won't work?

As many people know, I don't believe in the old strategy in Network Marketing called the Recruiting Game. A network strategy based on just 'throw the mud against the wall and see what sticks!'

I think the only effective network strategy is based on competence, what I call 100% Success.

I have already heard some leaders excited that the current bad economic situation will provide the perfect situation to build a business based on 'recruit & motivate' strategies of old. Sorry, it won't work.

The public want to know that if they join your business that they have a very high chance of success. If they do not believe this then they will either not join or they will join then do very little. The latter situation is the worse because they will waste so much of their time with no economic benefit.

Why did the old strategies work?
The old strategies of recruit like crazy and search for the people who will recruit like crazy only work in a high excitement times, such as when a company first launches. Obviously another time was when we were pioneering this industry in the 1990s. People are easier to motivate.

Tough economic times mean lower confidence and more negative attitudes. This means it's harder to help people be motivated. Thus it will be very hard to make the old strategy of 'recruit & motivate' work.

The only way to build the confidence necessary is

to release the motivation necessary
to produce the action necessary
to ensure success

is through COMPETENCE.

Is everyone suffering?

It is easy to believe that everyone is suffering in the tough economic times, yet frankly they are not.

There are lots of people who are either not affected badly by the economic downturn or will be flourishing whatever happens.

In most developed countries, the statistics are something like this: one third own their house completely, one third rent and one third owe money. Thus property prices only affect one third.

Also there are people who are unaffected. Boom industries such as mining, energy, farming, etc are having great times. Costs are skyrocketing yet so are prices with little chance of a major collapse.

Also, there are lots of wealthy people in the world now. Their wealth will drop yet life will not change too much.

Also the hordes of retired people.

And the numerous young people.

And the countless people in the public sector and military. The cost of living hurts yet they don't have a severe economic concern as the business sector [YET].

The problem is that the most economic people will suffer. The people who are generating the wealth in society. People buying houses for their families. Working in businesses. Starting business. Having and educating children. They are aged between 25-55 years.

These people need cashflow.
We are a fantastic business to provide cashflow.

What is the current financial crisis?

Few people are economically trained so find the current financial situation confusing. They hear stories of 'credit crunch', 'housing collapse', 'unemployment', etc and worry, mainly because they don't understand the full implications.

I believe most people have no idea how easy the last 10 years have been. We have had the biggest housing/asset boom in 50 years. There has never been such easy credit. Very low unemployment.
Any idiot could get funding to buy a house and because they had a house, they could borrow more money on the value of the house going up.

There have been global problems from stock market falls to mega-bank collapses. Is the worst over?
The papers around the world are full of 'commentators' saying that the worst is over. The richest man in the world and famous investor, Warren Buffet, was asked in June after a wave of bad financial news whether he thought the financial mess was over. He said 'it has only just begun'.

Having studied the financial collapses in the 1970's, 1980s and 1990s, [remember there were problems in all these decades.] I am very negative about the world economy over the next five years. In fact, it should take ten years to restructure the world in a high energy price, food price, baby-boomers retiring and inflation market. If you own a house, you don't want to hear what I think about property prices.

FACT - Financial collapses come in waves. 1987 financial collapse wasn't really felt by the general market until the early 1990s.

FACT - Negative times last many years. To read commentators talking of 'recovery in 2009' is laughable. More educated commentators note it normally takes AT LEAST five years to recover. This one has more damage in the face of much larger global changes.

Success key?
Cashflow.
Find businesses that produce cash.
Use the cash to buy under-valued assets.
Not now, in a year or so.

This industry is fantastic for cashflow!
That's why Robert Kiyosaki of Rich Dad, Poor Dad fame recommends our industry.

Why Life Is Fantastic!

Across the world people wonder what is going to happen in this current financial crisis. The range of reaction is from ignoring it to panic. The question for me to answer is how will this affect Direct Sales/Network Marketing?

There are lots of points to cover so I'll do one at a time every couple of days. Hope you enjoy the discussion.

Forward them on to your team to inspire them to action. Don't forget times like these are confusing to most people and confusion kills action!

Only those old dogs like me, who remember the last time it was like this in the early 1990s. There are lessons to learn.

Point 1             FANTASTIC!
The key point for everyone to appreciate is that the current financial crisis is fantastic news for our industry. The number of people either looking for a new financial opportunity or who would consider one if approached should increase dramatically.

History has shown that economic crisis has been when the 'business opportunity' industries, such as franchising and direct sales, enter a new growth stage.

What it is vital to appreciate is that one growth stage is NEVER like the previous stage.

Also just because people NEED an opportunity does not mean they will immediately embrace yours.

Also the messages you have been putting out to attract people to your business may not be effective in this new period.

What do you need to know?
1.                   what is this current financial crisis?
2.                   why people won't react?
3.                   why the strategies of the past won't work?
4.                   how do you pitch your opportunity?
5.                   what tools should I use?
6.                   why should you read the papers?

Proof that Men Have Better Friends...

Friendship among Women
A woman didn't come home one night. The next morning she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend's house. The man called his wife's 10 best friends. None of them knew anything about it.

Friendship among Men
A man didn't come home one night. The next morning he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend's house. The woman called her husband's 10 best friends.
Eight confirmed that he had slept over, and two said he was still there!

Before you shout at me for sexist thoughts, there is a learning lesson in this 'sick' yet funny [to a guy] 'joke'. The lesson is in loyalty.

That is not to say that women are disloyal to their friends.
The lesson is that the man's friends thought they were acting loyally to his friend.
It's a great thought. They tried to be loyal and say what they thought their friend wanted.

Too often I see disloyalty within networks. Too much personal criticism.
This undermines relationships which are the bedrock of our business.

I am not saying you need to lie about someone. Or edify an idiot. Yet it does mean you should ignore the negative comments. The criticism. The undermining of authority.

If you want loyalty, give loyalty first.
Did you know that loyalty is normally described in terms of love and self-sacrifice?

As the great success author Napoleon Hill once said, "Lack of loyalty is one of the major causes of failure in every walk of life"

How loyal are you?

What Is Leadership?

It is what you are paid Network Commissions for.

Think about it.
You join a network.
You 'buy' a Network Business Franchise for the right to earn commissions.

You earn money from:
1.     saving money on personally buying products
2.     profits on personal customer purchases, AND
3.     from the purchases of your network

Why does the company pay you those commissions on the network?
Sponsorship? Otherwise known as recruiting.
For a start, you only sponsor a few, the rest are sponsored by others.
And if the bulk of the income was based on earning from recruiting then you are officially 'pyramid selling!'
In fact, if the bulk of your income was paid on recruitment then companies should only pay you a bounty for each person recruited and not pay residuals.

The challenge with leadership in our business is that few understand it.
We do not have the same environment as normal leadership in business, military, government or other organizations. There is no Command and Control levers to pull. No fixed teams. No team goals. No 'sticks' to beat those that don't perform.

Also it is not the same as the inspirational leadership as employed in churches. We need to deliver specific results.

Those that promote that leadership is purely 'Example' also don't understand this business fully.

So what is the Right Thing for Network Leaders?

The first step is to understand that we are a business based on Individual Performance.
All leadership action must be focused on creating higher levels of Individual Performance.
Develop TEAM actions to develop Individual Performance.

What Is The Right Thing?

Management guru Peter Drucker once said
"Management is doing things right,
leadership is doing the right things."

My definition of Network leadership is more detailed - 'to influence your people to do the Right Thing when you are not there'.

No influence - no leadership. Whatever rank you are.
Your people - the people in your payline. Other people don't matter unless they are influencing your guys.
When you are not there - means that you have created independent action.

So when you look at this, you can see that there are only really two issues: How do I influence? and What is the 'Right Thing' to do?

Important questions, don't you think?

The two most important questions in this business!

They are also not questions to be answered in this newsletter.

They are realities for you to embrace as they define leadership in our business. This is a leadership business so they define success!

For the next few days, think about those two questions. Do you know the answer?

If you don't then you cannot be a leader in this business.
And if you are not a leadership, what right do you have to collect leadership commissions?
Ouch!

Set Goals

The obvious last step before taking massive action is always to set goals. I am sure you have great dreams and expectations for this business. The challenge is that you will probably set the wrong goals!

Most people are not technically competent.

If you asked them if they could sponsor one new networker per week for four consecutive weeks, they could not honestly say 'yes'.
In other words, they are not competent.
Thus they are not confident and not independent!

Most leaders I meet, admit they cannot achieve these standards. THEN they claim to be leaders
How can you be a leader and be incompetent?!

Learning and Activity Goals
Set Learning and Activity Goals to ensure you have the confidence to then achieve Performance Goals SUCH AS 'I will be competent in the skill of sponsoring'

Talk to your upline about how to be better, learn better, perform better for the enxt 6 months

What Are Your Business Numbers?

It's July Mid Year Review Time.
For the first 6 months of this year, what are your numbers?

Most people will look at the basic numbers and they are important.

What was your revenue?
What was your personal production?
What was your team production - new recruits, customers, volume?
How many people are in your team?
What growth did you get?
How does this compare with last year, if you have been in the business for this period?
Now it's time to look deeper

What rank advancements?
How long are people active as a networker, retailer or customer?
How productive are people?
How many people joined and did nothing?
What events were there and how many of your people turned up?
What trainings were there and how many of your people turned up?
 And the BIG ONES
How competent are your people?
How confident are your people?
How independent are your people?
A solid analysis of your personal efforts and those of your team over a six month period will reveal the reality of your business. This is where you start from.
The challenge is knowing the reasons behind the results and often you are the wrong person to decide on what is happening.
This is what your UPLINE are for! They are paid to coach and guide you. Not just your sponsor, everyone up many generations. Ask them for help. They will always give it.

It is time to be honest with yourself. Awareness is the beginning of growth!

Big Vision

You [of course] have a big goal which will encompass the achievement of what you would call 'success'.

Many may think this is a purpose driven goal such as 'help 1000 people' yet this is a business so it should be financial.
Having a Rank [such as Diamond] as a goal it means nothing if it doesn't have the income attached.
Even then an income can be temporary so you should ensure the income goal should be 'residual', ie, it is a permanent independent income.

An example
An example would be if your BIG VISION was to achieve what you understand to be 'financial security'. This means that your residual income is so large and stable that you don't worry about paying for your desired lifestyle and are investing for the future. Lets say the annual profit from your Networking business for this was $200,000.

You would then ask yourself the question, how am I going towards my $200,000 goal?

These are always multi-year goals so you need to cut them into annual stages thus if you planned to invest four years of massive effort to achieve your goal, after two years you estimate that you need to be earning at least $80,000.

Reality check
Too many leaders I have met estimate their income performance in a naïve way, remember that:
1.                   This is an annual income. Monthly or quarterly income is part of story.
2.                   This is profit. A $200,000 revenues with $100,000 costs = $100,000 per year
3.                   This is after tax. You can be very tax efficient in this business yet you still have to pay what you need to.
4.                   This is residual. You must be able to stop working and the income should keep growing without your effort. If it does not grow there is something wrong and it will start to decline.

So what is your big financial goal and how does it split for this year and how are you going?

If it is not what you planned, why not?

People ask me what is the difference between the Recruiting Game strategy and 100% Success strategy.

Good question.
In fact, extremely important question!
If you don't know the difference, you will likely revert back to the current 'default' strategy for our industry which is Recruiting Game!

In one saying, the difference is 100%.

100% Success strategy will produce at least 100% better results
People have a 100% chance of success
Confidence will release motivation so people will give 100% more effort.
More effort produces 100% better skills
More confidence produces 100% better communication
More confidence means people will approach their warm market rather than cold market which is 100% easier to produce results
More competent people produce 100% more duplication

As you are dealing at the absolute heart of our business, a small improvement is amplified for an enormous difference.

What is the difference in Function?
The difference is that in the Recruiting Game strategy, people focus on Performance First [and never Competence].
In 100% Success, people focus on Competence Before Performance

The Best Training Promotion Email ever?

Communications is one of the key leadership skills. Few people are natural communicators in either verbal or written form so we need to develop this skill.

Sometimes I see or hear communication that I would call Best Practice. The other day I experienced just that.

Dear [first name],

I absolutely believe with all my heart that the best financial investment you can make is to invest in developing skills that will help you build a large XXXX business.

In real-estate an 8% return is very good. But when investing in your skills, it can lead to a 100%, or even a 1,000%+ return in the long term. And I AM NOT exaggerating.

The trick of course is to;
1. Invest in the RIGHT SKILLS,
2. BECOME COMPETENT at them (by studying, doing, and teaching them), and
3. Then CONSISTENTLY APPLY THEM to your XXXXX business.

I can assist you in the first area by recommending the good resources and events to you, but ultimately it's up to YOU to do 2 and 3.

So here is my part for you...

Worldwide Networking Leader, Edward Ludbrook is an acquaintance of mine, and he just emailed me with some updates on the industry. He will be conducting a "100% SUCCESS WORKSHOP" in Sydney on the
29th June and I think it would be very wise of you to attend.

All the details in the attached flyer.

Your Name
PS. Please email me your comments and thoughts after the event.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Classic!
Simple
To the point
A statistic that catches the eye.
Clear reason why they should attend.
Clear responsibilities.
Clear event details.
Then a request to keep him updated so they know he is interested in the result rather than the event itself.
Leadership is Different in Network Marketing
As Napoleon Hill said 'what man can conceive and believe, he can achieve'.
To lead people, even in the early stages of our business, you need to understand it and believe you can do it. Sound logical?
We need to put the HOW or WHY of Network Leadership to the side for the moment.
It's more important you know WHAT of Network Leadership first.
The first point to that you must [must must] understand and believe is that leadership is different in Network Marketing than in any other sort of organisation.
Different to leadership in companies, government, military, charities and even different from spiritual organisations.
The difference in situation, people, functions and objectives combine to create a different environment which requires slightly different beliefs, strategy and approaches than in these other leadership situations.
Over the next few days, think about the differences and realize that it is these differences that expand the potential of this business and direct your actions.
BECOME AWARE of differences as AWARENESS is the start of higher thinking and living.
Everyone can lead in Network Marketing. Network Marketing is different. Different types of people can succeed in this business. You just need to learn how.
Got it?!
Most people think they can't lead people. It is a belief that they learnt when they were younger. Consciously. Subconsciously. It is a belief that ensures that they do not enjoy their full potential.
YET you need to believe that. Everyone can lead in Network Marketing
The facts:
In network marketing, leadership is based on your ability to become competent in:
·          the 'performance skills' of retail and sponsor which everyone can do.
·          coaching people to competence which everyone can learn how to do.
·          developing network teams which everyone can do.
·          developing a network structure within an organisation which everyone can do.
'Everyone can do',
100% Success, get it?!
Over the next few days I want you to think about what sort of person will become a leader in Network Marketing. Be honest with yourself.
What do you think they look like?
Race, sex, religion, height, weight, age, experience, etc, etc.
I am not talking about the superstar top leaders.
This programme is for the new team leaders.
The sort of people you want to fill your network.
The people you will rely on to create and maintain your residual income.
Yes, the sort of people that will be the basis of your success in Network Marketing!
Once you open your minds to think what sort of people you want to fill your network, it will help you discover the potential and enable you to tap into the real possibilities of this business.
Did you think about what sort of person can be a Network Leader?
Race, sex, religion, height, weight, age, experience, etc, etc.
Duhhhhh
That was a trick!
Race, sex, religion, height, weight, age, experience, etc, etc. HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH LEADERSHIP IN NETWORK MARKETING!
It certainly does in the rest of society. We all know it shouldn't matter yet it does. Analysis after analysis of leadership people in the English European worlds show that 'tall, white, middle aged, married man' is the leadership image that people have.
This is not the image we want!
In fact, my thoughts are that we should leave all the 'tall white men' to the rest of the economy and just take our leaders from the rest!
That's why I think you will smile at the images I want you to choose.
'I am a new generation leader. I can lead all sorts of people'
This is not a COMMAND AND CONTROL form of leadership.
We have to lead by inspiration, trust, character, competence.
It's all carrots and no stick.
Also we will have a very different sort of leader.
I don't want the image of the traditional 'corporate' power leader.
I don't want the stereotype image of the 'white powerful male'.
Or they good looking power woman who dressed like the power leader male.
I don't want stereotypes as all
I want the image to say
What you look like does not matter. No age, sex, colour, hair style, clothes, height, etc etc.
And thus it will say 'who you are inside and what you do' is all that matters
I want it to say
I am in charge yet I am quietly confident. I can get people to do things willingly.
I lead people through my character, our opportunity, my professionalism
This is not a normal corporate business
This is business when woman can lead
This is a global business
It has to say 'I am confident, happy and in charge. I am a different modern image of leadership. The people behind me are in my team. They come from different worlds yet we will change our world together.'
Sponsor or Coach?
If you recruit someone, we say that you are that person's 'sponsor'.
What does this mean?
Is this the right term?
I don't think so.
[Words matter. They create meaning in your head which effects your actions.]
Some people say 'Sponsor' means you have reSPONSORbility for the person.'
What does that mean?
If it's not clear, it creates confusion. Confusion is the death of action.
There are many definitions of Sponsor yet the one that is relevant is 'One who assumes responsibility for another person or a group during a period of instruction, apprenticeship, or probation.'
Think about it, are you 'responsible' for the people you sponsor?
If so, responsible for what? If you don't do what you are responsible for, how should you be impacted?
If you are responsible for someone achieving their goals and they do not achieve them, should be earn any money on their activities? If you do not actually invest enough time in someone, should you earn any money from their actions?
Makes sense, if you are 'responsible'!
Do you see why the word is wrong?
What are the facts:
1.  People joining are independent business people and are responsible for their own success.
2.  To help these independent people, the company pays you to do three things:
      a.      Introduce them - recruit then and give them the initial briefing
      b.      Coach them until Competent
      c.       Coach them for greater Performance once they are competent
3.   The introduce commissions must be small as a part of the combined commissions paid or the programme is a 'recruiting programme', better known as 'pyramid selling'.
So your main 'responsibility' is to be a Coach. If we were smart, we would change the name of the Introducer to Coach, not Sponsor.
Then everyone would understand the responsibility of the introducer. The focus and therefore the behaviour would be correct and results would increase.
Then our only challenge would be to get the Coaches to focus on Competence Before Performance
